Volunteer with Spark House

Bring care, curiosity, and useful creativity.

Help preserve the story of this place, welcome visitors, and build reliable systems for a community project that starts small and grows by mutual agreement.

Ways to help

Written roles make service safer and more useful.

Volunteers work only within their assigned role and documented procedures. Training and approval come before access to sensitive records, physical materials, or private visitor information.

Heritage intake & scanning

Welcome contributors and carefully digitize photographs, documents, albums, and keepsakes.

  • Record names, dates, places, occasions, ownership, credit, and privacy instructions
  • Scan fronts, backs, writing, marks, and envelopes at the highest practical quality
  • Never write on originals; maintain order, condition, and chain of custody

Appointment coordination

Review visit requests and maintain one reliable schedule for volunteers and visitors.

  • Confirm times directly with visitors and prevent overlapping appointments
  • Assign a responsible volunteer and document changes or handoffs
  • Protect visitor contact information and use it only for Spark House work

Visit host & tour guide

Help guests feel welcome while sharing the property’s history and library connection accurately.

  • Prepare for the visitor’s stated interests and accessibility needs
  • Keep tours small, respectful, and within approved areas and hours
  • Use authorized information; do not make commitments or speak publicly for Spark House without approval

Facilities & hospitality

Prepare spaces, support safe access, and leave the property ready for its next use.

  • Follow opening, closing, fire, life-safety, accessibility, setup, and cleanup procedures
  • Report hazards, damage, incidents, and significant concerns promptly
  • Respect the property, its neighbors, parking expectations, and scheduled activities

Records & digital stewardship

Organize historical records and operational documentation so nothing is lost, misidentified, or exposed.

  • Maintain accurate filenames, manifests, permissions, provenance, and access restrictions
  • Use approved systems and named accounts; never keep private files on personal devices
  • Escalate sensitive, sacred, culturally restricted, damaged, wet, moldy, pest-affected, or hazardous materials

Programs & community connections

Support small classes, family activities, community conversations, and mission-aligned partnerships.

  • Start small, serve families, install authentically, and build by mutual agreement
  • Document proposed commitments and route them to the appropriate coordinator
  • Do not solicit donations for Spark House while charitable contributions remain paused

Trust & boundaries

Every account carries a duty of care.

Volunteers protect private information, use named accounts, report incidents promptly, and keep Spark House records out of personal storage. Volunteers are not police, security, dispatchers, investigators, or organizational spokespeople unless a separate written authorization specifically provides otherwise.
